Comprehensive eye exams
Comprehensive Eye Exams in Downtown Chicago
At least 30 minutes with Dr. Pelini. Long enough to check your vision, look at the health of your eyes and answer the question you came in with. Caring for Chicagoland eyes since 1996.

What we check
A comprehensive exam is more than a vision check. Here’s what a visit covers.
How well you see
Near, far and everything in between, to land on the right prescription.
Your history
What has changed since last time, and anything worth watching.
How your eyes work together
Focusing and teaming, which matters more than most people realize for screen work.
The health of your eyes
A look at the structures inside and on the surface of the eye.
Why our exams take longer
A vision check tells you what strength glasses to buy. A comprehensive exam does more: it’s also a look at the health of your eyes, and eyes can show early signs of things you would never notice on your own.
Thirty minutes is our floor, not our target. If your eyes need more time, they get more time.

How often should you come in?
Most adults do well with a yearly exam. Come in sooner if you notice a change: blurriness, headaches, eye strain, floaters or anything that seems off.
Some people should be seen on a set schedule regardless of symptoms, including patients with diabetes and anyone monitoring a known eye condition. If that’s you, we’ll set the right interval together.
Exams for children
We see children from around age 5. Dr. Pelini performs the exam herself, and if a child needs care beyond an exam, such as vision therapy, she refers to a specialist and stays involved.
Before your visit
What to bring
Your current glasses and contacts, including the boxes if you have them. A list of any medications you take, since some affect your eyes. Both your vision and medical insurance cards, if you have both.
Write your questions down
People forget them in the chair. Bring the question you came in with. There’s time to ask it here, and you’ll leave understanding the answer.
